JOTA 2008

10/23/2008 | W8BI On October 18th and 19th 2008, over 75 Cub Scouts , Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Scouters and guests took part in the 51st annual Jamboree on -the Air (JOTA), the largest scouting event in the world and 12th Annual Jamboree on- the -Internet (JOTI) hosted by the Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA) Education Committee at the Belfontaine Road Site. The scouts were instructed on the basics on amateur radio by the club volunteers and leaders with amateur licenses. The scouts and leaders were able to talk to other scouts around the globe using both radio and internet methods. Contacts were made in such counties as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, UK, Germany and South Africa. The scouts were exposed to all aspects of amateur radio including the building of FM receiver kits and several boys earned their Radio Merit Badge. The event was a tremendous success and looks to be even bigger in 2009! -- KD8FNX
