JOTA 2008

11/08/2008 | K2BSA/5 The Irving Amateur Radio Club in conjunction with the Circle 10 Council International Committee of North Texas participated in this year's JOTA event. The set up was located at the US National Scouting Museum and National BSA headquarters building in Irving, Texas and was QRV from 1400Z to 2100Z on 10-18-2008.

Because the notice was short, only a month prior to JOTA weekend, attendance was not what we had hoped but it turned out to be a wonderful day and a great event for all who participated. Members of Irving Troop 175 were active in set up and operations of the two HF stations and one UHF IRLP station throughout the day. These guys really took to the radio and were making contacts on their own and actively engaging operators and scouts on the other end. Other scouts came to the grounds throughout the day and close to 50 domestic and international stations were contacted on various bands. 14 members of the IARC participated and all involved felt it was a great learning event and looked forward to participating again next year.

We wish we had taken more pictures of the event and scouts who participated, but everyone wwas having such a good time that we plum forgot.

The IARC thanks Ray Moyer, WD8JKV, K2BSA trustee for allowing the use of the K2BSA/5 callsign for this event. The club is looking forward to JOTA participation in 2009 and is already in talks to participate in other scout related activities throughout the year.

QSL to Irving Amateur Radio Club, P.O. Box 153333, Irving, Texas 75015-3333. We have created a special QSL card for the occation and have already sent them out to all calls worked. -- N5HYP
