JOTA 2009
I applied for and was granted the special event callsign K5J for this years JOTA. We operated from 9:00am to 5:30pm local time.
We were visited by approx. 20 - 25 scouts and siblings. We had a mix of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts this year.
Every scout was able to make contact with another staion. We taught the scouts how to give their names phonetically and also taught them how to send their name in Morse code. After each contact we would locate the station on the US or World map, so they also got a geography lesson!
We worked stations in Germany, Ireland, Estonia, Romania, Scotland, Czech Rep, England, Netherlands, Midway and Central African Rep and many scout stations also in Canada and the US.
JOTA was very difficult this year because of other contest/activities like WAG, NY-QSO, IOTA, 70th USCG and NWR, hopefully next year won't be so crazy.
Thanks to Adrian Britton we were able to distribute JOTA patches on the spot!
