10/19/2009 | NX8J Venturing Crew 73, a unit in Buckeye Council of BSA, participated for the third time in JOTA. This year's event was a Fall Camporee at Camp McKinley near Lisbon, Ohio. Over 20 Scouts stopped by to observe. Several earned credit for partial Radio Merit Badge requirements. Made more HF contacts this year than in 2007 or 2008.

On the air from 11 AM local till 5 PM, Saturday only. Used a TS-140 and an inverted-V from outdoor location next to dining hall.

Best DX was Oregon on 20 meters. One international to Canada on 40 meters. Even got a few special event stations in the log. Most operations were SSB, a few PSK31. Morse paddle and keyboard encoder set up for practice, always attracts attention of Scouts.
