JOTA 2009
In Trujillo Alto, the Puerto Rico Amateur Radio League participated with troop 1959, Pack 1959 and Pack 718 in the Antilles Military Academy, and when while some were in a classroom doing JOTI, Mario Rivera - KP4NNC and Orlando Mercado - KP4UN, president and vice-president of PRARL, gave the scouts first a warmer on what are wireless communications and the history of amateur radio on the outside, then the scouts were involved in the construction of a 2meter antenna. To test it I went with my HT with the lowest power setting possible to talk to them, asking if they heard me and a few simple questions. And last, we contacted another troops via repeater, plus a few other hams. They had a great time on-the-air.
The new Western Amateur Radio Club - NP3M, were in the club house of Troop 55 in the city of Mayaguez, giving a hand to Braulio - KP4HX for the activation, meanwhile Frankie - WP3PH was giving the speech about what is amateur radio. Later they went to help another amateur, Joel - WP3UI with his jamboree with troop 300; and we have to mention that Joel is blind, and was doing a super effort to the Jamboree.
Ricardo Velez - WP4KVH, was in charge of troops 82 and 154 in the Park complex in Santurce, part of San Juan. I gave him a hand when in breaks to speak to them via the KP4IA repeater 145.370 Mhz with my HT and 1/2 watt.
Troop 808 and others were in the Lineal Park in the city of Bayamon. Hector Reyes - WP3ZZ and Hector Perez - NP4FW were in charge and used the call KP4BSA.
Troop 266 was axctive in the Colegio del Carmen from the city of Hatillo, using the call WP4CRG, with Serafin Martinez - KP4FIE and Carlos Luciano - WP3MD at the helm. Also from Hatillo was Troop 457 with Israel Cabrera - KP4LCL.
Last, there was a group in Luquillo that used the call NP3BA and WP4NST. And this group, spoke with the troops of Hatillo and Mayaguez via the KP4CAR repeater - 147.210 Mhz, which has an island wide range.
As said before, I want to thank all of the clubs/individuals involved for making this Jamboree the hit it was expected to be.
Cheers de Angel Luis Santana -- WP3GW
