2010 ARRL June VHF Contest
Well, another contest, another VHF antenna. This time around it was a new 10 element 2m WA5VJB Cheap Yagi on a PVC boom, to replace the wooden boom edition that was demolished by the rainy winter. A nagging suspicion about the lack of 6m stations heard got me to digging out the MFJ 259 and sure enough, feedline problems - a bad connector let water into the coax and shorted it. So *naturally* I was out of PL-259s. After a quick jaunt to Radio Shack and a few minutes with the utility knife and MAPP gas torch (MUCH quicker than even the hulking 300W Weller gun) I was back in business.
There was a fair amount of 6m activity early on for me, the usual mix of midwest and northeast stations, but things petered out and pretty soon there was a whole lot of nothing. I only made 2 2m contacts and no 70cm contacts this time around. I was expecting better of June! Maybe September'll be better. Hopefully I'll have the second 70cm beam up, and maybe a second 2m beam as well, by then.
