06/28/2010 | N8XMS I operated a solo 1B-Battery effort for a few hours on Saturday. I used my Elecraft KX1 with about 3 watts into a 40-ft wire tossed up into a tree, and three 16-ft counterpoise wires laid out on the ground. I had 71 non-duplicate QSOs on 20 and 40 meters with 31 states, 2 Canadian provinces, and a total of 36 ARRL sections. The weather was hot and sticky but my portable screen shelter gave me good protection from the sun and bugs. -- N8XMS
