06/30/2010 | K9OR FD 2010 turned out to be more of an "emergency preparedness" exercise for the North Shore Radio Club than originally planned. The park we had reserved over 8 months prior all of a sudden became unavailable on the Wednesday night before FD due to an error made by the park district. They admitted their mistake and gave us another site which actually turned out to be better than the original one. Then Murphy, Thor and Mother Nature decided to gang up on us. Murphy first attacked our computer network rendering it inoperable, then Thor created a constant flow of powerful static crashes from a strong storm that stalled about 70 miles north of us making 80M unusable. Then on Sunday morning, Mother Nature brought Thor south with her and let him rain lightning bolts down on us along with her torrential downpours keeping us off the air for an hour and a half. Now you might think all this might have put a "damper" on this year's FD, but it didn't. We all had a great time facing these challenges together operating 3A from IL. Bring on next year! -- KK9H
