The ARRL'S Field Day 2010 for the East River ARC, Bluefield, WV was held at Boy Scout Camp Roland in Bastian, Va. on Saturday/Sunday, June 26-27. We started to set up around 11am or so and had the following antennas and rigs on the air:
6 meters SSB; WD8OOR Don Anderson's rig with his G5RV antenna
15 meters SSB; N8GK Gary Kadar's rig with his homemade 3-element beam; the "Mini Horse Antenna". The construction article is in the March 2010 QST magazine article on page 37 by SMØDTK from Sweden.
20 meters SSB; ERARC's Yaesu FT-100 with ERARC's tribander on Ben Mill's N8XXA tower trailer operated by Roger Stefancic, KC8LGR
20 meters digital; Dave Bailey N8DMB's rig, computer and ERARC's dipole. Steve O'Dell N8SNR and Hooger Fisher W4OF operated as well. Dave copied the W1AW Field Day Message for extra points. Dave was using Fldigi ( information at: http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/6537 ) software for digital communications.
40 meters SSB; Harold Hodges N8NCP alinco dx-70, windom antenna and mfj tuner.
40 meters CW; Randall Hash WB4BBF's rig and ERARC's 40 meter dipole (175 contacts!) He was using N3FJP'S Field Day logging program http://www.n3fjp.com/ .
75 meters SSB; Don Anderson's rig and Don's G5RV; Hooger Fisher and Roger Stefancic operated this rig also.
Lonnie Underwood KI4EED manned the information/sign-in table.
Generators: two of the Club's units, and one each from Gary Kadar and Randall Hash.
We were fortunate to have the use of Gary Kadar's pneumatic 'spud-gun' to string the dipoles as well as Ben Mill's tower trailer. We were blessed to have help from Club members in the setup for the event. At 6pm, we had a pot-luck dinner at the large shelter with about 26 people in attendance. "A good time was had by all."
We contacted all of the states but 11 of them: AK, DE, HI, ID, MT, NE, NV, NM, OR, WA and WY. We also contacted the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan. Canadian Maritime Mobiles contacted were VE1FO and VE1QD. Two German stations were worked also: DL5AWI and DF2PY on CW (contacted last year also). (<We contacted all but 13 states last year, fyi>)
We were completely shut down and dismantled by noon-thirty on Sunday. All of the Club's equipment was taken to the Mercer Co. 911 Center for storage.
