2010 ARRL Field Day
Operations for Field Day 2010 by the East Coast DX Association – K2VK – were handled with their recently reconfigured station layout, this time in a 2D – NNJ setup. Radios used were a Kenwood 940s and an Icom IC-7000. Bands worked were 6m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 40m and 80m, successfully utilizing SSB, RTTY and PSK31. Antennas used were both a 10-15-20 meter Tri-band Beam and a G5RV type dipole.
Contacts were made as close as 1 mile away (K2BAR operating from Paramus NJ) and as far away as Prince Edward Island (VY2PEI), British Columbia (VE7NSR), Hawaii (NH7O) and Puerto Rico ((WP4Y).
Logging for the event was simultaneous compiled into a single log, for both stations, using a networked installation of the N1MM Logging Software. With both operating stations networked together, including different computers, radios and operators, each was able to see the others’ contacts as soon as they were logged in a single log format, as well as being able to send each other on screen text messages and see which band the other station was operating on to prevent simultaneous use of the same band in the same mode. This setup also afforded the ability to print out a complete log, listing all stations worked, along with full scoring, immediately upon the closing of the event.
Operations for K2VK took place on Saturday evening and again Sunday morning, with over 120 QSO’s being made across the 5 bands and 3 modes in play.
Members of ECDXA also took part in Field Day 2010, by returning to the air, the Callsign and equipment of Stan Sears – W2PQG - SK 2008, operating as W2PQG, the Club Callsign for the Stan Sears Memorial Amateur Radio Club, using Stan’s equipment including his Kenwood 930s transceiver. More information is available under W2PQG on this operation. More info about K2VK www.k2vk.org and for W2PQG go to: www.w2pqg.org
