2010 ARRL Field Day
The Ventura Co. (CA) Amateur Radio Society (VCARS) and joined by: Amgen ARC, Conejo Valley ARC, Hollywood Hills QRP Contest Club, Simi Settlers ARC, & Ventura Co. ARC operated "Field Day 2010" from the Grounds of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum, Simi Valley, CA (Grid DM04og). Special Events Callsign "N6R" was utilized to honor the lives of President Ronald Reagan & Mrs. Nancy Reagan. This was the 10th consecutive year for VCARS to operate "N6R" from this site. In most prior years, one or 2 other clubs joined VCARS, but 2010 marks the "Grand-Daddy" of operations for Ventura Co. hams. Some 75 hams from the 6 clubs participated to make over 2000 QSOs, in 49 states from the 19 stations (19-A). (The ATV station only utilized ATV repeaters throughout SoCal so "N6R" was unable to count that station in the F/D Entry statistics.)
Stations were spread out across the Visitors Parking lot and the full 1000 ft distance was utilized. VHF/UHF/microwave operations were atop a hill which is normally utilized as a helicopter pad for VIP visitors to the Museum.
Most stations operated at the 100 watt level. All non-WARC HF bands were utilized except for 160 meters. 6 & 2 meters; 135, 70. & 23 cm; and 10 & 24 GHz were also activated.
A full color photo of the 24 GHz station, operated by Frank, WB6CWN, was featured on the front page of the local section of "The Ventura Co. (CA) Star" Sunday edition.
A great catered BBQ on Saturday evening provided a chance for the members of all 6 clubs to enjoy time together without any radio QRM!
A great time was had by all AND best of all: no illness or injury.
