2010 ARRL Field Day

07/17/2010 | AF4O

My first solo field day operating 1B Battery. Hot as usual in Southwest Tennessee in late June. Used a FT-817 5 watts with a 130' wire and L Tuner. All contacts CW. The state park i was at was virtually empty. Only 2 others there with backpack type tents and a canoe.

A primitive campground it gets so dark you cannot see your hand in front of your face. A neat experience though operating CW most all night with the display of the 817 and a LED flashlight. Found out that both of my different brand battery flourescent lights generate RFI.

Got there late in the day and left mid morning to avoid the heat of the day. Thunderstorms the first day anyway.

This is just one of many outdoor QRP outings for me though. Along with the Polar Bears, AZ Scorpions, and other groups, i am doing this type operating often. Gets my now older blood to stiring
