2010 ARRL Field Day
Well, another field day event is over. We set up slower than last year, and did better than last year. We used a crank up 35 foot tower for the main beam antenna. We had an additional rotating dipole and an inverted vee up at 60 feet. Twelve operators made it at one time or another during the event. We did CW for the second year, and made abut 146 contacts. We then had 940? phone contacts on the rest of the hf bands. We did not try 160 meters although we had an antenna for it. No one had guts enough to try it. The weather was hot, and we had no rain this year. Several times it threatened, but never really happened. Dinner was served Friday evening after the major setup and Sauturday evening also. Breakfast was served Saturday and Sunday mornings. An educationial program was given on Saturday evening after dinner, but I was asleep and didn't get to hear it. We had one child come out with her momand operate and make a contact on hf. So, a good time was had by all. The crank up tower was scary, and we did treat it with loving care, but don't know if we will use it next year. The 2011 get organized meeting will have to discuss some improvements to it's use before we try it again. The antenna on it performed very well, we were able to contack California and the east coast and had very good signal reports for just a 100 watts of power. We used all ICOM rigs again, includeing the new 7600, which is a really good rig. The emergencey generator performed well and always. All of the ops came together at the right time to assembly and disassembly the stations. Pictures will be posted later. Not very interesting report, is it? Things just went well, with all the experience of operating at this location we all know what to do.
