Each Field Day I normally go out by myself and set up in a remote site in one of the nearby national forests but could not do that this year.  So I hooked up a battery to my FT-857, pointed my beam straight east, and with a 40 meter dipole worked 1E from my home QTH.  In spite of missing being in the great outdoors, I had fun nevertheless making 225 contacts  via both SSB and CW knowing that those I was communicating with were in portable locations across the country .  Next year I hope to be back at 1B in the mountains and woods.   Scott, Los Angeles, CA
