2010 ARRL September VHF Contest
Traveled to Pilot Mt State Park in NC (EM96) to participate in this contest. I had intended to operate from one of the trails but a steady rain kept me in the car. The rain stopped later but I continued to operate from the car. There were several stations in the region I could hear well and was able to work them on all the bands I had: 50, 144, 222 (FM), and 432. My equipment was an FT-817 w/ gel cell, VX-7R (for 222 FM), 2 meter loop, mag mount, and 5/8 wave telescopic for 222. There was not any propagation enhancement so that hurt the multiplier effort. I think the most fun was working stations on 222 FM w/ 300 mW! As always, these VHF contests are great fun and I'm looking forward to January. 73, Tom, KC8KSK
