2010 ARRL November Sweepstakes (Phone)
After about 8 years of working Sweepstakes, I finally picked up the elusive sweep!
Things did not start well as I had in my mind that kickoff was 5 pm - having worked the CW Sweeps BEFORE the time change. Argggh. So when I sat down, 20 meters where I had intentions of starting, was already wall to wall signals. So I set about S&P operation. By the time I pulled the plug for the night, I had worked many sections that I traditionally have trouble with and I had heard NT a couple of times with good signals.
Sunday morning delivered a few new mults and saw NT go into the log, so now I was getting excited. By 2 pm, I had everything except MS. I decided to move from 40 back to 20 and try a little CQing. After about 5 minutes with no takers, I was beginning to wonder if my 100 watts was making through the QRM. Then, clear as a bell, KJ5RC replies to my call. As I'm giving the exchange, I'm thinking "could this possibly be MS?". Then I her back - "100" - could it be??? - "Alpha" - maybe - "KJ5RC" - I hope so - "92" - Please please let it be - "MS" - YES! I could hardly contain my excitement as I thanked the op profusely for the sweep.
All said and done, I accomplished both goals I set for myself at the outset - work the sweep and top my best point total. I did both, so it was a very successful and satisfying weekend.
Thanks to everyone for the QSOs and see you next year!
