2010 ARRL 10 Meter Contest
This was the 14th stright multi-op for the NX5M operating team. The operators listed have been the same for several years although in years past there has been an additional operator or two who have joined us.
We were pretty sure that we would have to work just a little harder this year with the addition of Mexican states counting as multipliers. To get ready for this I decided to build two four-element 10m yagis to fix on two towers at two different heights pointed into the heart of Mexico. The addition of two more antennas required additional switching systems to be installed. Everything worked well and the additional antennas worked great.
The operators did a fine job of using both VFO's to listening for and working stations on the sub-vfo. What I have discovered is the need for a few more antennas. Seems the 13 yagis that are in the system now are not enough. Due to certain heights and fixed headings, there are a few nulls that I would like to fill so for next year additional antennas are being planned to fill those nulls. Additional switching will be added to allow even more options.
We have been fortunate to win the 10m contest for the last 5 years after finishing second the three years preceeding. Going for a sixth straight win was another reason we felt we would have to put in a little more effort. Never would have thought it possible to pull this off six years in a row!
