2011 ARRL Straight Key Night
I had a most enjoyable time participating in Straight Key Night for the first time in quite a few years. This year, I placed the K8QMN Special Event Station on air for several hours, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Michigan, QMN CW Net. It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a number of leisurely, pleasant CW QSOs.
The key used was an old Western Union 2A key mounted on a J-38 base. This key belonged to Harry Turner, W9YZE (SK), who set the worlds record for fastest sending on a hand key back in 1942. It seemed appropriate to place it on air for SKN.
Equipment used on 80-meters was a late 1930s Thordarson transmitter paired with a National HRO-MXTM receiver of World War Two vintage. On 40-meters, a Ten Tec Century 22 was used.
My vote for best fist worked goes to K8EHE and my vote for most interesting QSO goes to W8DHG.
Stations worked include: KC8URY W8OZM K3AFS K8EHE WA8KOQ N3BC W8IQ NF8M W9QB N2EY NV4T W9AVM W8DHG K0LWV WB8RAE W4NBK KB9OS WG8W.
