2012 ARRL November Sweepstakes (Phone)

Sweepstakes 2012 was an eventful year for us (Mike K2KR, Carol KC0MOM, Kristin KC0INX, Melissa our nonham daughter, and Mike Kristin’s nonham husband) and not necessarily in a good way. We were plagued by all sorts of issues from our health to the radios health. We never did find a solution to all the problems, but we still had a good time as we always do when we are doing radio field day style. We were at Knobnoster State Park again as my daughter and radio partner is still in Missouri with her husband who is in the Air Force. Kristin KC0INX turned up with a nasty cold bug this year that made it hard for her to operate anywhere near as much as she would have liked to, but she did get in the time that she could. Then we had a radio problem that seemed to come and go, some people said we had a warble on our signal, that was the most common description anyway so that is what we will go with, we finally sorted it down to being there mostly with our amp on, an old sb 200. If anybody has any ideas I am open to suggestions. We will want it again for winter field day I think. We might just do that one bare foot. We did end up with some great weather this year with mild temperatures and very little wind, and the rain held off to the of the contest and then the sun came out and dried it all off so that we could pack it up dry for the trip home to Colorado. I don’t know where we will be next year, but we will be back for sure as this is our favorite event of the year. -- K2KR
