2013 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/02/2013 | W4MPS

I dusted off my 1909 British GPO straight key and plugged it into my KX3. The key is larger than my rig!  I ran back and forth between bowl games and the shack, and enjoyed quite a few great QSO's, mostly on 20 Meters.  Using the straight key was a ton of fun and I should do it more often.  All great op's in this event.  Many thanks to all for the Q's.  I especially loved Guy's (WB6HGJ) QSO with his vintage Collins gear.  He reported some voltage probs which resulted in a little chirp.  Nothing serious, but it was actually great to hear.  I don't think I've had a QSO like that since the 60's.  Thanks Guy, that was fun. I even worked two mountaintop SOTA (Summits On The Air) stations, QRP to QRP, KD9KC, Mike in New Mexico and Todd W7TAO in Washington. How cool is that?  Also loved working the other straight key QRP stations.  Great job Pete, N0JTE with 4 watts from Iowa and Bob, K7PVT with 2 Watts from Washington.  Happy New Year to all and see you again next year.

73,

Marc, W4MPS (N.C.)
