2013 ARRL Straight Key Night
This year’s SKN seemed better than ever! Plenty of interesting stories, a nice variety of vintage equipment, and courtesy and good operating practices were the word of the day.
This year, I concentrated primarily on 80 and 40-meters. My primary equipment on 40-meters was a Lysco 600S transmitter paired with a National HRO receiver. On 80-meters, the primary equipment was a Johnson Viking One and a Hammarlund HQ-140X. The antenna used was a horizontal full wave loop resonant at approximately 2-mHz.
A variety of keys were utilized including a Johnson Speed-X bug, a Vibroplex Blue Racer, a Signal Electric Straight Key from the 1920s and a Western Union 2A legless key, which formerly belong to Harry Turner (SK), who set the World’s Record for fastest transmission on a straight key.
I’m already looking forward to SKN 2014!
