2013 ARRL Field Day
The North Shore Radio Club had another well attended and fun Field Day from our park location in Lake Forest, IL. We operated 3A with GOTA, VHF and satelite stations. The bands seemed to be pretty "flat" this year from our midwest location so signals appeared to be much weaker overall than last year. Unfortunately, we also experienced a very strong broadband buzzing noise that was affecting all bands 80 through 2 meters. We do not know where it was coming from, but it was a constant S5-S7. In addition, there were some very strong thunderstorms just across the border in Wisconsin that made 80 very difficult to use. Those storms were also threatening to drift south and affect us too. Fortunately, they didn't so we persevered with noise blankers running and still managed to crank out a good number of contacts though our overall total was down from last year. Field Day is one of our club's most popular annual events and this year was no exception.
