2013 ARRL Field Day
I had a fantastic time with the W5MPZ team. The weather was beautiful in NW New Mexico's Zuni Mountain range, and the trees were graciously tall for our 2 dipoles.
Day one was slow minus a few piles, but we made only around 140ish QSOs. The midnight to one shift really picked up with a young operator behind the radio, and the CW station had a few good runs.
We pulled the plug around 1:30 to 2am but I slept in until sunrise.
Second day was pretty active. The PSK station was finally working, and the SSB station kept up a good rate throughout the day. We had a sheriff visit, and sent bunches of formal message traffic for bonus points.
I attempted several times to get a satellite QSO using my V/U yagi and an 817/897 as the RX/TX rigs on the 3 good LEO SSB/CW sats, but I couldn't hear myself on the downlink until the last second of the last pass of FO-29.
It was good fun, good food, and great people!
