2013 ARRL Field Day

06/26/2013 | KP4FD

The Puerto Rico Field Day Group held it's 5th Field Day operation on the premises of the Municipal Office of Emergency Management (OMM) of the city of Cataño. It was operated as 2F PR.

It is always good to have a Plan B: when Edgar - NP4EG and I arrived to the EMA, we were told that because of external reasons, the place we were going to put the equipmente, the EOC, was to be used for a training from 8 to 5 Saturday, even thou we asked for the site 4 months in advance. So an idea ocurred to use the front part of the Office, so as to attend the visitors. Thanks to the Sub-Director Victor Rivera, he opened an adjacent room and all we had to do was extend the antenna cables to the other side of the building.

We began at 2pm operating inside the room, and 1/2 hour later got a call to participate on the QSO Radio Show. CW was for a while and then we kept on SSB for 3 hours on 15 meters, which was hot!. Spent most of the time calling and good pileups formed. Meanwhile Edgar and Rey - WP3HP mounted a dipole on the roof

Took a break at 6:30pm to send the radios to the EOC and participated on a programmed Field Day Net to report our activities on the 147.210 Mhz and ran by Lymarie Cardona - KP4LCE. Later tehre was also an HF programmed net on 7.180 Mhz, which was moved 8 khz up with the help of Anthony - WP4I. Also the Section Manager René Fonseca - NP3O visited, as well Luis Monge, who is Chaplain for PREMA.

Fifteen meters was the main band up to 2am! Then Uris - NP4WW went on PSK 31 at 3am. Returned on the air before 6am and continued until 2pm with Tony,- KP4IA at the helm. We did a record of 845 Q's and just missed AK, NE and UT.

Want to recognize all the 12 groups who did get active on the air here, a 4-fold record on the island. Hope your FD went as expected and plans to celebrate it during the ARRL Centennial go well!
