2013 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/21/2013 | KF0M

No six meter openings heard here which seemed to result in more activity on two meters in the contest.  In Kansas, the rovers made the contest this year. There were plenty out.  I managed to work seven different rovers and they kept things busy and interesting especially on Sunday afternoon which is normally dead on two meters in this part of the country.  The w9fz/R station had a very good signal and was most of the the time louder than home stations in the same grid. In general band conditions on VHF/YHF were poor with no real sunrise enhancement on Sunday morning.  For the first time in several years I did not here the k5qe mega-multi-op station at all during contest which when I don't hear that power house, I know band conditions are bad.   In spite of the lack of longer distance conditions, activity was higher ovver the local normal range area compared to 2012.
