2014 ARRL Straight Key Night
Another SKN has come and gone, but the memories of some really great, hand sent Morse contacts remain. Conditions were good on 40M here in western PA, and I'm pretty sure the number of participants increased over years past. It was pleasing to hear the number of stations who fired up vintage equipment, and, especially, entry level equipment from their beginnings in ham radio. What can top the glow of vacuum tubes and the smell of warmed mildew and beeswax?
The traditional PRC-1 Spy Radio Set was feeding its 12 watts out to the doublet again this year, and my thanks go to all who had the patience to copy those faint signals. Luckily, the smoke remained in the radio this year, and we'll both be looking forward to SKN 2015.
