2002 ARRL Field Day
Operations were conducted on the grounds of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum, Simi Valley, CA.
VCARS operated as 6-A + a GOTA Station. 5 watt output and battery power supplies were utilized. 80 M through 2 M were active at various times. However the GOTA station was under-utilized. We had substantial pre F/D announcements on 1 local radio station and in 3 newspapers. A post Field Day article appeared in the local newspaper and mentioned the 5 ARRL Clubs in Ventura Co.(CA) as well as one non-club group.
We had approximately 650 people view some part of our Field Day Operation; our stations were located in visitor parking lots and adjacent to walkways. A Command Post/Public Information Booth was set up at the only Museum entrance.
Several Radiograms were originated and the special W1AW F/D bulletin (on CW) was copied in its entirety by Bob, W6KGE,on Friday night. However, W1AW did not appear to transmit the bulletin on Phone that evening!
Approximately 20 club members and interested non-members participated in the Field Day Event.
Special thanks go to the Ronald Reagan Library & Museum for co-sponsoring us, to Kenwood Communications for the loan of an HF transceiver, to A.E.S. Electronics for the donation of "Now You're Talking" for PIO use and door prize, and especially to the staff of the Reagan Library for their assistance.
Special thanks also go to Director Art Goddard, W6XD; ARRL V.P. Freid Hein, WA6WZO; and his wife, Sandi, for visiting 30 clubs during Field Day.
