2002 ARRL Field Day

06/27/2002 | WD9ABG I went ahead with my FD outing and operated 'marine 9' but I want to tell you, talk about hot! Chicago had 90deg. + temperatures during FD.
I tied up at the inner Jackson Park Harbor (Chicago) which is at 57th St. and Lake Shore Drive bit since it is the inner harbor, very little wind made for a hot time.

I have full services on the boat but even with frequent showers and lots to drink it was a tough environment.

All that aside, I had fun but set no FD records for sure. I made 97 QSO's using the IC706 across all bands except 15m (no resonant antenna) the 6m Gods opened the band most of Saturday so 26 contacts were on 6M. The rest were a combination of 10, 20, 40 & 80m plus a few on 2m. I used my FT817 as a receiver to monitor the activity on other bands. The FT817 was connected to a dipole strung from the bow to the stern held up vertically by my boat hook pole.

I bailed out at 18:00Z, a combination of the heat and claustrophobia. 73, Marty WD9ABG -- WD9ABG
