2014 ARRL November Sweepstakes (CW)
SSCW 2014 was a big one for me.
Considering that at the time of the 2011 SS, six months of seizures had reduced me to an advanced Alzheimers-like state and that there were doubts I was ever going to recover. Not that I was missing SS that year as I was too busy trying to figure out where I was and who my wife was.
The following month they discovered the cancer and I started the process of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. The seizures stopped during the first round of chemo and my cognitive skills began returning much to the delight of my wife since I could now remember her name. After a year of treatment and another year of brain injury rehab I was able to play in the 2013 SSCW (yeah, I went back to work too) albeit with a station that had taken a lightning strike and fallen into a 2 year state of disrepair during my medical absence.
This year at least everything in the station was mostly working and I returned to competing at a level that would have been thought impossible just two years earlier. My MD Anderson and rehab doctors are going to be as pleased with my results as I am. They don't get many wins and like to cherish the ones they do get.
It's good to be back.
