2015 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/02/2015 | KR7W

After celebrating SKN at The W7OS Doc Spike Museum at the Radio Club of Tacoma the previous day (1/1/2015, 0001-0500 UTC) I fired up my own vintage station which consists of a WRL Globe Chief XMTR at 50 watts and a Drake 2B+2BQ RCVR.  The Key is an old Wm Nye SK which has been my favorite over the years.

The first memorable QSO at KR7W was with a ham in CA.... who went quite in the middle of sending.  After a few minutes he came back on frequency and sent, SRI SRI FUSE BLEW.  He had fired up his Heathkit HW100 for the first time in 20 years.

The second notable QSO was with a ham from ID... who told me, BAD CHIRP UR SIG DRIFT DOWN ABT 40 HZ ON KEYDOWN SRI RICH NOT CPYING TO WELL SO WILL SAY 73.  I laughed and wondered if I was being snubbed.

Straight Keys, Bugs, and Vintage rigs... Such great fun!
