2002 ARRL Field Day

06/29/2002 | N4XU The Massanutten and Valley Amateur Radio Associations were "Field Day Active" again this year, operating from 4,000 feet, atop the Shenandoah Mountains in southwestern Rockingham County, Virginia. The callsign used was N4XU, operating 3A VA. We had the following
stations in operation: CW, SSB, VHF/UHF, Satellite, Digital, GOTA,
and also made the bonus contacts with a Natural Power Station.

We had a very active GOTA Station setup, operating under the call of KZ1A - participation was vigorous, and numerous previously inactive hams came back to "radio life". There were also a number of non-hams that took part.

The picture of the G.O.T.A. shows a very excited and enthused non-ham making his very first ham radio contact.

Quite a good idea for the League to replace the Novice/Tech station with the Get On The Air station. A great way to expose folks to amateur radio.

A good time was had again this year by everyone. Hope to work you
again next year and 73 from MARA/VARA. -- N4XU
