2015 ARRL Straight Key Night
This year for SKN I used a Begali Spark straight key instead of the usual WW-2 J-38 by Lionel. There is a difference ! For a rig the ever faithful Yaesu FT-767GX, a botton pushers delight. Actually, compared to todays latest & greatest $$$ digital jobs, I don't see much difference, and I own both new and old. I like the old !
This SKN seemed to me to be less in terms of stations on the air than last years SKN, but maybe I am wrong. Having worked just a few stations, one that stands out is WA1WCC, from Cape Cod Mass. WCC was an HF Commercial Station for decades running traffic and weather broadcasts to ships at sea. It was one of several Commercial HF Maritime stations that had a rock crushing CW signal here on Long Island. Great for CW practice and eaves dropping on ship to shore CW traffic sent at 20 wpm by a human operator. There were many such stations on the HF Maritime bands years ago but no longer. The WA1WCC Group used an original WCC antenna for SKN from the Marconi Museum in Cape Cod for SKN. SKN is a fun event and brings back many fond memories of my early Ham career.
