2015 ARRL January VHF Contest

01/30/2015 | KD7WPJ

It was combined ARRL VHF Contest and SOTA (Summit On The Air) operation. Weather conditions prevented from taking 3 el. beam for 2 meter. It was strong St. Anna wind in the morning - hot wind from the East. I used FT-817ND with rubber ducky antenna for 144 and 432 MHz and wire dipole for 50 MHz. View from San Gabriel Peak was outstanding. Los Angeles downtown was in the line of sight. There were a lot of hikers, and everybody interested what I am doing. It was a great opportunity to promote HAM radio. When I satisfied with contest operation, I installed another dipole for 14 MHz band, and made SOTA activation, using CW. After this I switched back to VHF/UHF and finished my contest operation after the sunset. It became cold and dark, and it was time to leave San Gabriel Peak until the next contest.
