2015 ARRL International DX Contest (Phone)
After years of US multi-ops together (K4OV and N1BA), this was our first experience on the DX side of contesting. What an experience! We brought poles and wires to a beach in the bahamas, and spent two days setting up Field Day style- a SpiderBeam for the high bands and verticals for the low bands. We didn't even finish before the contest started, so we spent the first night with no 160m antenna and a badly tuned vertical on 80m.
But there were still lots of folks to contact, and we ended up for 5700+ QSOs. N1BA had several terrific hours running over 200, and K4OV saw his rate meter hit 456 at one point. We were very impressed by the well-behaved callers and pile-ups from W and VE stations. Our biggest problems were the voracious and incessant sand fleas. Two weeks later and we're still scratching.
Thank you for all the QSOs!
