2014 ARRL International EME Contest

04/09/2015 | YT0EME

I was prepared to participate in this contest very seriously this year.
For the occasion, I've used a special callsign YT0EME.
Category: single Op 2m all mode.
Equipment: 16x7HV - YU7EF design, K3 ,Transverter LTIIS MK2, LNA 0.3dB , 8877
and Fun Cube Dongle Pro plus .
I've been working with this equipment as YT1AR for a while now and I am very
satisfied. My location is 10km from my home and it's very quiet.
For a while it seemed like everything would work as planned, since the equipment was
always working fine, that is until Mr. Murphy had started to interfere and my network
connection broke down.I barely managed to synchronize my computer clock.
Nevertheless, everything went fine up to 0550 GMT, when a 13.8 VDC power supply
exploded.
The power supply was fixed during the afternoon and, after the first weekend, my score
was 175QSO.
All in all, I was quite satisfied.

The second weekend began (and ended) with stress. The wind was blowing furiously and
it managed to bend a steel plate with an Azimuth rotation reductor on it.
I noticed this an hour before the contest had begun and there was nothing to be done at
that point.
At this point I thought about giving up, since the system was swinging left and right for
up to 15 degrees and aiming for the Moon became very difficult. There was also a risk of
a greater malfunction.
In the night between Saturday and Sunday, when I had a window towards W , it was
raining heavily and the SWR on the antennas had increased.
I suspected the water had leaked into the system and I just stopped working that night in
order to prevent further damage to the equipment. This cost me a lot of points.
In the end, my score is 236 qso X 73 multipliers.
I would like to thank all of you for such a great time!
.
Best 73, Dan YT1AR (YT0EME)
