2002 ARRL Field Day

07/01/2002 | NR3K It is time for Field Day!!!!

We did not get on the air right away as we had hoped for field day. We had a 5kw generator that was used to power stations during setup to make sure they were operating like they should, and all went well. We then switched over to the 12KW Honda Generator. This plugs directly into a 220 plug and powers the whole park, including all of the pole lights. We we switched, only half of us were working. We had found that there must have been a busted underground wire in one of the runs. After running a new wire in the air, well above our heads, we were up and running, but not for long.

We operated NR3K, 3A, EPA. After the generator got fixed we started to operate, only to see a thunderstorm rolling in. This put another damper on the operating stations.

When nightfall came, so did the bugs. Talked about getting ate alive!!! We ended up taking a break from operating and hung around a campfire to keep the bugs away. We had some very nice talks. We started the fire around 10:00 pm. At 3:30 am, I headed for the camper. I could still hear voices as I fell asleep. When I woke back up in the morning, all the operating stations were going again.

I will be uploading more picture at http://www.repeater.net as soon as I get a chance.
