2015 ARRL 10 GHz and Up Contest
Had a great time this year in the contest. The first weekend I operated on Lake Erie. The weather was great and we had a nice group of stations around the lake. I got to try two new locations on the Lake this year.
The second weekend of the contest I was on or near Lake Michigan. We had rain and high winds on Saturday, and we stayed away from the lake shore because of the winds, but Sunday more than made up for it with great conditions across Lake Michigan. On Sunday I was able to work Pete K9PW twice on 24GHz across Lake Michigan on 24GHz with the best distance of 130Km. That was my first time getting across the lake on 24GHz. On TX I was running around 12mW of CW into a 17db horn antenna. On RX I was using another 17db horn antenna into a preamp/mixer. Because of the LO I had working my IF frequency was in a band I only had a receiver for narrow band FM. So I had to transmit to Pete in CW and receive him on FM. Many QSOs were made across the lake on both 10 and 24GHz on Sunday. Garry K3SIW and Pete K9PW also tried working across on 47GHz, and I believe at least one of them heard the other.
