2015 ARRL Field Day

10/30/2015 | N0BG

The Benson County Amateur Radio Club, ND, set up in a new site for them in 2015, Mystical Horizons, an astronomical park high on the escarpment of the Turtle Mountains, northwest of Bottineau, ND, and only a couple miles southj of the Manitoba, Canada, border. The place is about 85 miles northwest of Benson County.. The QTH had a magnificent view of the prairie about 500 feet below us to the south.  We set up our mobile, crank-up, tilt-over tower and our emergency communications trailer, aka, a converted office trailer. The place proved to be a good radio location and a good place to meet vistors to the park who just happened by.  We had a couple local hams stop by to visit us as well. We had a three-element Hygain Junior tribander and a twin-lead-fed dipolf for 40 and 80 meters. We have a Icom 756 Pro II for a HF transceiver.  We got an interview from the local Bottieau paper for some FB publicity for our hobby. We had good propagation and we did well considering our small numbers of operators---always our biggest problem--but all concerned had a great time. Everyone agreed it was a great place, and the best part was talk of doing Field Day again in 2016!
