2015 ARRL 10 GHz and Up Contest

01/01/2016 | W1AUV

Great contest as usual! I was on Mount Greylock (MA) and Mount Equinox (VT) on the first weekend. Many highlights but the standouts were the contacts from Equinox. N2DH, VE3FN and N3RG. It's nice to make contacts but when people are excited, you get excited. N3RG was my best DX that weekend and he was thrilled! So was I. Listening to his excitement made me laugh out loud and I couldn't get the smile off my face for half the ride home.

The second weekend was also a blast. I tried one of my old spots near Cairo NY (FN22wi). It still has only a 300 degree to 100 degree window crossing north. So, I let some people down to the south. But they cut the trees down that were starting to block the view. It's nicer now.

At FN22wi I made three great contacts again with N2DH and two others: WB2BYP and KF2MR. We made a bounce shot off of buildings in or around Albany NY. They had no path to me almost directly south of them so they aimed east and I aimed at Albany. It was worth 33km worth of points but it was the fun of it that made the contact. I heard from N2DH that KF2MR hadn’t made such a contact before and was pleased.

I was on Greylock again on the last day to fill in any contacts I hadn’t made the last weekend. This was also in part due to the fact that I was so tired I could have laid down and slept in the road. So I went home in the afternoon. I apologize if I let anyone down. My heart needed the rest.

I look forward to next year. Maybe this time I’ll have more pep for the last day!
