2016 ARRL January VHF Contest

02/06/2016 | WA6OSX

Great contest. Activity was fair and conditions on the higher bands were poor but I still had a lot of fun.

I focused more on 6 meter digital operations this time. There was a great turnout of Northern California 6M JT65 stations each afternoon and I had the pleasure of working most of them. Including several stations that I wouldn't of been to able work by any other means, especially K6JBH CN90 and W7HGH DM09. I spent several hours on 6M FSK441 too, making many meteor scatter contacts while coordinating with a great bunch of ops at Pingjockey. Conditions for 6m MS Saturday afternoon were good but Sunday morning they were fantastic!

I also got to spend some time on 146.52MHz and made several contacts. I found a handful of "FM only" rovers/portable ops and I stumbled upon a more than a few non contesters who seemed to enjoy handing out QSOs. Everyone was well behaved and it was nice having 52 back after all these years.

Finally, I want to thank the rovers and all those who got on the air, ran through the bands and made the QSOs possible. 73
