07/17/2002 | AA5RO This was the best over all effort so far for the Alamo Area Radio Organization. Last year a rain storm destroyed our FD camp but this year we had great weather. We had lots of youngsters involved and we had great TV coverage on Channel 12 at 5 P.M. and 10 P.M. news slots thanks to Greg Simmons/KD5BVG a sportscaster for the ABC affillate. The atmosphere and the food made for great fellowship enjoyed by all. We setup in a local park where we had to get permission from the home owners association which has more security than the U.S. government. A large gazebo in the center of the park with lots of light poles and trees for antennas. We had to charge our batteries to full capacity during the daylight hours as we shut down the generators at 10 P.M. and restarted them the next morning at 7 A.M.
Don't know if we will be able to top our success next year but we are all looking forward to the next one.
