2016 ARRL June VHF Contest
What a great contest ! I had a chance to see new places and operate a new band (3.4G) this contest. While the 6m openings were clearly a highlight, it was also refreshing that we had at least 8 rovers operating in Western NY with many of them capable through 902MHz or above. The activity from the Canadian side of Lake Ontario was also great with rovers, single op, and multi-op stations all easily heard up through 1296MHz. There was certainly not a lack of opportunity in this contest, just the difficult decision of where to spend time. A rover dinner on Sunday in Le Roy NY attracted 9 guys representing 6 rovers. It was a great time and a good opportunity to share the highlights and inevitable challenges of operating on the road. Its a lot of work to convert the daily use vehicle into a microwave capable rover and then back again in a matter of a few days, but its worth it.
