2002 ARRL Field Day

07/20/2002 | WA9CJN With more than 52 years in existance, the Kishwaukee Amateur Radio Club of DeKalb IL observed another great Field Day in 2002. With the usual enthusiasm, and the attacks on our country fresh on our minds, over 30 KARC members assisted planning, setup, operation and teardown. What was originally intended to be a local exercise of the abilities of hams to operate in emergency conditions, has long ago became a social event for all club members. A warm breezy night greeted the CW, SSB, and Digital operators as they piled up even more points than the years previously. Visiting us this year was Rochelle newspaper writer Bill Karr, a disabled, unlicensed amateur radio enthusiast. Soon after FD, we were proud to say that he got his Tech license, a dream he's had for 40 years.

We did much better, pointwise, than the years before, and look forward to continuing the tradition of improving and enhancing Ham Radio's reputation of being able to operate in any environment.

And thanks to the efforts of Doug and George Allen, KB9AGT/KB9AGV at the GOTA station, and the portable tower trailer that John Gunderson, K9TIP has worked so hard on (and which served as a flagpole this year), along with everyone else in the KARC who assisted.

73's and we hope to talk to you on the air.
