K9OR
The North Shore Radio Club once again had a great time at Field Day. This is our most popular annual event in terms of participation. We have about 190 members and around 120 of them join in each year. We operated 3A with a GOTA station (K9RST) and a 6 meter station. Our location is a nice open park in Lake Forest, IL with lots of tall trees around to hang our dipoles. We set up separate tents for the SSB, CW and GOTA stations. Band conditions in general were noticeably poorer than last year and our contact count was down a bit, a total of 1917 combined contacts were made versus 2215 previously. We operate two CW stations and one SSB station under 3A. The GOTA station was down a little as well, but I think we did pretty well considering. Weather was hot, but with the exception of a short rain storm we were able to operate continuously. Our Saturday night picnic was absolutely outstanding. The food couldn't have been better! When Field Day ended we actually had everything packed up and put away in record time. We all now look forward to next year. -- KK9H
