2002 ARRL Field Day

07/22/2002 | K6AFN Here is an assortment of pictures from K6AFN's first ever Field Day. Field Day took on the air of "Operate with whatever we could find in the yard" at American Forces Radio and Television Service Broadcast Center, and make sure that we operated without the help of commercial or generator power. We did that by using three old UPS deep discharge batteries, to let you know how old the were one went SK during the contest, but the other two kept us going for the remainder of the day.

K6AFN also experimented with one of W1AWL's EH Antennas, transmitting without a wire, yes and EH antenna is a capacitor, some mysterious math and theory and you have an excellent 20 meter antenna as seen in the photos.

Two new amateurs got a taste of what it was like to go on the air KG6LYC, Kevin and KG6LYD, Mike were active on K6AFN during the majority of the activities.

Everyone, including old timers Al, W1AWL; Pete, WN6QJN and Bruce, WA6BZ (that's me). Had plenty of fun and can't wait for the next contest....expect to see K6AFN on many more.
