Four years ago KY0Q and W9FY decided to give 1E QRP Field Day a try when the local club decided to take a year off from the event.  To be in more of the field day spirit, we operate outside on the patio.  We’ve gone from part-time operating, paper logs, a 100W rig turned down to 5W and one vertical antenna with wires taped to a PVC pipe to 24 hours operating, a logging computer, a KX3 and a mix of temporary and permanent dipoles and verticals to chose from.  Fifty contacts were made the first year and at over 390 contacts this year, we are (slowly!) closing in on the goal of 500 contacts.  It’s been interesting, we’ve learned a few things, been grateful for four years of good weather but most of all we’ve had fun!
