We had 37 QSOs with 12 operators over 24 hours and had a great
time. Operator changes involved much ragchewing in the shack.
Students benefit from the contest by exposure to amateur radio.
Staff and faculty benefit from student engagement. The contest
is a social equalizer. The operators were:
Adam Doyle, VE9ABD,
Asim Ashraf Taj,
Brent Petersen, VE9EX,
Brandon Brown, VE9BWB,
Chelsi Doyle, VE9DOY,
James Cameron,
Jon Dueck, VE9JTD,
Martin Hann, VE9PLS,
Sam Mason, VE9FQU,
Trent Mitchell, VE9EN,
Xavier St.Onge, VE9IDK, and
Zik Mir.
With propagation down from last year, the local weather
being two days of rain, a folded-dipole 10 feet above a
wet flat roof, 100 Watts and S9+ noise on some bands in
the engineering building, this required much patience by
the DX station operators. It was satisfying to hear thank
you when giving out the MAR section and for activating a
school club. Credit goes to Trent, VE9EN, and Sam, VE9FQU,
two new hams, who had the largest QSO rate during their shift.
Over the four years from 2013 to 2016, we have not had QSOs
with the sections AR, MS, NLI, NT, OK and WPA.
Due to planned significant building renovations,
participation in the year 2017 is uncertain.
