2017 ARRL Kids Day - January
The Schofield (Aiken SC) Middle School Technology and Ham Radio Club had another good week FOR SCHOOL CLUB ROUNDUP IN FEB 2017. We had 7 students participate during the week. 3 YLs (two licensed) and 4 male students. The club got in a little over 20 hours of air time. Split between 20 and 40M. All but 5 contacts were on SSB.
The 20m antenna was a inverted V on surplus miltary fiberglass poles outside the classroom with the peak at about 22 FT. The wire was $5 worth of Home Depot house wire. They talked from Australia to Israel with that antenna. Made it to Alaska, but, again we missed Hawaii. The 40m antenna we used was a old vertical mulitband with about 6 radials that we have to put and take down each day, along with the 20m dipole. No towers, no rotors, no beams..
The club used a new ICOM 7300 and borrowed a KPA500 amp.
We had snacks for them the first 4 days, and on Friday, we had PIZZA. The school club is sponsored by the North Augusta-Belvidere Radio Club.
THIS ENTRY SHOULD BE IN SCHOOL CLUB ROUNDUP.
