2015 ARRL Kids Day - June
Members of the Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club participated in ARRL’s Kids Day from the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge (CMOR) on Sunday, June 18, 2017. Jamie /KN4CQM, Hilary /KE4BDW, Dan/KX4CH, and Jim/KY4L operated on HF SSB (20 m and 40 m) and on 2‑m FM from CMOR’s Discovery Room while Paul/WA0BAG and Jim/KC4RD were at their home stations at the other end of the contacts. Kids from ages 4 to 11 years made 2-way contacts, and 9 certificates were awarded from 2 p.m. until the Museum’s close at 4 p.m.
ORARC sponsors Amateur Radio Outreach at CMOR every third Sunday afternoon. Kids learn to send their names in Morse code, see demonstrations of neat radio phenomena, and participate in 2-way contacts by amateur radio. Outreach and Kids Day coincided in June, so the 2-way communications aspect was emphasized.
