The Williamsburg Area Amateur Radio club, K4RC, operated 2A with one station dedicated to CW and another to phone, plus our GOTA station and a 6 meter station setup in one of our county parks. We had good results at all stations, and with the weather being good (though quite warm) this was our best year.

On Saturday, June 24, 2017, one of our members brought his granddaughter to check out our GOTA station. With granddad (N4DJ) as coach, 10 year old Mallory made 20 contacts for us.  As her granddad said, “she was a hit at Field Day”.

Then on Sunday, our Virginia state Delegate Brenda Pogge, came by to see the operation. While expressing sincere appreciation for what Amateur Radio can do, we convinced her to give our GOTA station a shot. She was a quick study and made a successful contact before heading to her next meeting.
